More PCoIP Endpoint Options to Connect to Amazon WorkSpaces Desktop-as-a-Service

Written by HP Teradici | March 25, 2021

Earlier this month, we posted about the IGEL UD7, a new high-performance endpoint that can take advantage of the latest PCoIP Ultra™ feature enhancements.

In this post, we’ll dig deeper into the announcement from IGEL’s DISRUPT Unite event about the integration of the Amazon WorkSpaces client in IGEL OS. It’s big news for DaaS users, because they can now access Amazon WorkSpaces via PCoIP with an experience they’ve come to expect.

The Rise of Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS)

The need to work from home during the pandemic sparked an increase in DaaS usage over the past year, and industry analysts are predicting this trend will continue long after COVID-19. In a report published in February 2021, Gartner forecasts that the number of users for DaaS will grow by over 150% between 2020 and 2023.

Beyond the pandemic, one of the major reasons behind this growth is the ongoing need to set up cost-effective and secure remote working spaces for organizations embracing the benefits of distributed work. Gartner says that nearly 50% of employees will continue to work remotely post COVID-19 for part of the week, compared to 30% before. This will drive growth in demand for enterprise software and a re-evaluation of how to best enable a secure distributed office.

DaaS is Better with PCoIP

Amazon WorkSpaces can use the security of the PCoIP protocol to transfer only display information in the form of pixels to end points, so no business information ever leaves the cloud.

Amazon WorkSpaces users can access their desktop from anywhere with a wide variety of endpoints, including laptops, PCs and mobile devices.

Amazon WorkSpaces and IGEL Collaboration Delivers Security, Performance and Flexibility Based on PCoIP

The journey to enable a secure end-to-end solution from Amazon WorkSpaces to and end-user’s device culminated on Feb 25, 2021, when AWS and IGEL announced their partnership to bring Amazon WorkSpaces to the masses on IGEL OS.

“IGEL and AWS collaborated to offer a flexible, secure, and future friendly device solution for accessing Amazon Workspaces,” said Simon Clephan, Vice President of Strategic Alliances, IGEL. “This latest announcement is another great example of allowing users to leverage PCoIP for a high-fidelity, end-to-end Amazon WorkSpaces experience.”
