Earlier this year, Appsbroker, a UK-based Agile System Integrator and Google Cloud Premier Partner, announced an exciting collaboration with Teradici to deliver high-performance visualization solutions at scale.
Through Appsbroker’s ECCoE (Extreme Cloud Centre of Excellence), Appsbroker can help enterprise customers solve complex business problems using High-Performance Computing/High Throughput Computing (HPC/HTC), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML) in concert with technologies from Google Cloud and Intel. Appsbroker helps customers strategize, specify and fully test workloads and workflows running in the cloud. With the computing capabilities handled by Google Cloud and Intel, Appsbroker looked to Teradici to deliver the full fidelity, remote visualization experience via Cloud Access Software with embedded PCoIP technology.
To fully demonstrate the capabilities of its ECCoE offering, Appsbroker introduced a virtual studio engagement workflow in 2019 specifically designed for VFX companies, to include: a 1-day workshop, 7-day engagement, solution engineering, managed services, and benchmarking. From November 20-21, Teradici was able to participate with Appsbroker at Google Cloud Next ’19 UK to showcase the “virtual studio” concept where content creators utilize graphics-intensive applications in combination with a locally accessed Wacom tablet, remotely hosted in a GPU-accelerated instance of a Google Cloud virtual machine.
Google Cloud Next 2019 again demonstrated an increasing requirement across organisations for remotely-hosted high fidelity workstations. We were excited to showcase these capabilities through Teradici's PCoIP Zero Client coupled with Cloud Access Software on our stand. The ability to link the artist workstation directly with a dynamically created high-performance computing render farm is empowering studios to meet the demands of an ever growing backlog of media content creation. With the recent surge in episodic content, being able to rapidly create the IT assets for a studio will be a differentiator in the industry.
- Geoff Newell, Technical Director at Appsbroker
To summarize, a typical use case for interested VFX studios or creative agencies can entail the following:
Studios and enterprise companies are embracing the on-demand nature of cloud services to quickly scale up new workforces, enabling them to respond to the dynamic and competitive nature of industries such as film, manufacturing and design.
They are also having to cater to the requirements of teams that expect to be able to work remotely as easily as from a local workstation, and need access to powerful on-demand compute from any location.
With Cloud Access Software, designers are able to access dynamic compute on Google Cloud in order to accomplish even the most resource-intensive design tasks such as simulations and rendering. They can do this from any location, eliminating traditional geographic restrictions on workforces, enhancing collaboration and ensuring visualisation is as rapid and efficient as it possibly can be.
We have always had great success within the media and entertainment market, delivering a high-performing and secure “under-the-desk” workstation experience from a remote data centre. Now working with Appsbroker, we can extend that success to deliver the same “under-the-desk” experience from Google Cloud with on-demand workstations. This approach will allow organisations the agility and flexibility to meet today’s business demands whilst still delivering the highest end-user experience.
