Teradici Announces Seamless Performance for Wacom Tablets With Any Device

Written by HP Teradici | September 5, 2019

Teradici has long been known for providing a superior experience for high-end content users accessing remote workstations, including VFX and animation artists. It’s in our DNA. Part of that experience is enabling the tools that artists use, including Wacom tablets.

While Wacom tablets are widely used across the media and entertainment, gaming, design and CAD/CAM industries, they present challenges within the context of remote workstations, due to the added latency of the remote connection. As more organizations move to centralize their compute power into either locally hosted data centers or public or private clouds, the performance hit for tablet users is a significant concern and can gate the ability of a team to fully transition away from local workstations. Teradici saw this need several years ago and stepped up to specifically design and test a solution within its PCoIP protocol to provide Wacom tablet users with the type of seamless performance they were accustomed to from a workstation under the desk. It worked - in fact, we’ve had customers enthusiastically validate their use of Wacom tablets with Teradici technology and the value of the resulting ability to shift their workloads to the cloud.

Initially, high-performance remote tablet support was available on PCoIP Zero Clients only, where firmware could specifically support the tablet - known as local termination - and this provided the best experience. Local termination allowed the tablets to greatly improve in responsiveness and tolerate higher-latency (25ms and higher) networks. Alternatively, we offered a bridged connection solution for some tablets where users preferred installing Cloud Access Software on a device other than a zero client. It worked well over low-latency networks, but sometimes performance could be less reliable at higher latencies, subjecting the artist to a sensation of lagging.

More and more of our customers are using Cloud Access Software, and our newest developments are aimed at surpassing previous performance benchmarks, independent of which device is being used. This means that we wanted to extend the reliability and low-latency performance for Wacom tablets with users of Cloud Access Software.

We’re pleased to announce that we’ve done that. Local termination for Wacom tablets with Windows Software Clients is part of the newest release of Cloud Access Software 2019.08, which was made available earlier this month. This Software Client is compatible with any device, including zero clients, thin clients, laptops and workstations.

Regardless of the distance between you and your creative content, you can edit seamlessly with your Wacom tablet on your preferred device using Cloud Access Software and PCoIP technology.
