NAB Show 2019 Highlights

May 2, 2019
Teradici

Teradici is the creator of the PCoIP remoting protocol technology and Cloud Access Software, the leading solution for a cloud-ready future. The company, founded in 2004, is focused on its core mission of seamless delivery of workstations and applications for end-users.

Each year, the NAB Show (National Association of Broadcasters) attracts 100K+ attendees from all over the world in media & entertainment. This massive influx of industry professionals specializing in post-production, film, gaming, cybersecurity, and other broadcasting-related topics get hands-on with products, services, and people driving the future of content.

We have many partners to thank for the increased presence of virtual workstation demos and inclusion of Cloud Access Software across the exhibit floor.

Here’s a video recap of demos featuring Teradici PCoIP solutions in less than 10 minutes:

Some NAB Show Highlights:

Dell featured their end-to-end solution, “Studio as a Service”, enabling companies in media & entertainment to take on short-term projects and extra staff without the technical hassle or heavy investment in capital. Also known as the “bursting” of workstations, Studio as a Service enables virtual workstations to be turned on and deployed only when needed. It pulls together all the components for making this happen – with one of them being Teradici Cloud Access Software for secure remote access.

Microsoft Azure showcased partner solutions that enable content management, monetization, and creation – with the latter featuring Teradici Cloud Access Software using the latest PCoIP Ultra protocol enhancements. These technologies worked hand-in-hand with an Azure virtual machine based in Texas enabling secure remote access to high-resolution content on the show floor in Las Vegas. PCoIP Ultra works to only transmit encrypted pixels (in this case, from Texas to Las Vegas) – making it possible for users of remote workstations to work on graphically-demanding content anywhere, anytime. Even with industry-leading applications like Avid Media Composer, the interactivity is pretty amazing even in the presence of high-latency networks.

Google Cloud demonstrated their virtual studio with impressive interactivity while using Maya over congested bandwidth – and that is, an internet connection at a tradeshow connecting to the Google Cloud. A virtual workstation that offers the experience of a local workstation is made possible with Teradici Cloud Access Software and PCoIP technology because only pixels are transmitted from the cloud to the endpoint and requires less bandwidth.

Qumulo, a Seattle-based company offering hybrid cloud file storage with real-time visibility on-premises and public cloud, showcased the possibilities of working in the cloud by having their concept artist work with 3D renderings live on stage. Their artist also shared personal testimony of how amazing cloud technologies have become in terms of enabling VFX and editorial content creation via virtual workstations.

AWS made sure to incorporate a Wacom tablet in their demonstration to show the power of its EC2 GPU instances – secure and resizable compute capacity in the cloud. Cloud Access Software supported this demo and helped enable smooth playback of VFX content and a highly responsive Wacom tablet experience even over the tradeshow network.

Interested in attending the NAB Show next year?

Quick tip – many organizations host tours on specialized topics such as Digital Asset Management. MESA (Media & Entertainment Services Alliance) has organized and curated this tour for several years now and it may be something to consider next year if you’re tight on time. Other partners like Microsoft also host tours within their booth which provide a helpful overview of their latest innovations.
