Exploring Remote and Virtual Solutions for Autodesk Maya

Posted by Mabel Louie on August 29, 2016

Autodesk Maya is an industry-leading 3D computer graphics application with powerful modelling, rendering, simulation, texturing and animation tools. Used by VFX artists, modellers and animators, the software helps create graphics and visual effects in film, video games, television and other fields of design.

Due to computation and graphics requirements, Maya has typically been run on high-end, dedicated workstations located on or under the artist’s desk. For many Maya artists, this has created several workflow challenges, including delays in transferring model sizes to local workstations, challenges in collaborating across locations, heat and noise issues as well as a lack of remote access for artists or reviewers. With the introduction of the Teradici PCoIP Remote Workstation Card and Teradici PCoIP Workstation Access Software, these challenges have been solved; Maya artists can now work remotely and collaboratively without sacrificing performance

In our new whitepaper, developed alongside Autodesk, we discuss the technology options and guidelines for deploying a remote solution to ensure a great user experience and includes test results for both physical workstations and virtualized environments with dedicated or shared GPU access

'The Angry Birds Movie' Created With Support by Teradici PCoIP

Visual effects can make or break a movie. Similarly, a sub-par computing experience can make or break a creative professional trying to work on those visual effects. There’s a reason why some of the biggest names in visual effects and animation rely on Teradici to ensure performance that matches a workstation experience, with 100 percent color matching and full-HD lossless support, even across multiple displays and under less-than-optimal network conditions.

Teradici has been proud to help support the creative teams of Industrial Light & Magic, a Lucasfilm Ltd. division, helping bring films such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens to life, and with Sony Pictures Imageworks to help bring the new The Angry Birds Movie to life.

*UPDATE: Teradici and Microsoft Azure to turn heads at SIGGRAPH 2016!

Teradici’s CTO, Randy Groves, just stepped onto the stage with Karan Batta, Program Manager on the Big Compute team for Azure, at this year’s Microsoft Build 2016 Conference and gave a live demo of Teradici’s PCoIP Workstation Access Software running Adobe Premiere and Unigine Heaven on Microsoft Azure. Randy showed how Teradici enables high-performance applications to work from the Cloud with the same rich end-user experience users have come to expect from locally-installed applications.
