Enhanced Performance, Security, and Flexibility with First Software Update for 2020

February 19, 2020
HP Teradici

HP Teradici is the inventor of the PCoIP remote display protocol and develops the Engineering Emmy-Award-winning HP Anyware (formerly Teradici CAS) to deliver the best virtual and remote desktop experience in the world.

We’re kicking off the new decade with a number of updates designed to augment performance, security, and flexibility for Teradici All Access subscribers. The updates are built into the 2020.01 software releases, rolled out late last month. Here are a few of the highlights:

Expanded 4K monitor support - The latest version of PCoIP Zero Client firmware includes 4K EDID (extended display identification data) parsing, providing 4K monitor detection and support, highly valuable for those working with upgraded office monitors. It also offers 4K resolution support with PCoIP Remote Workstation Cards or Cloud Access Software, which was previously in technical preview and is now generally available.

PCoIP Ultra™ enhancement (with NVENC) - We have continued to build on our successful launch of PCoIP Ultra, with new modifications to improve overall bandwidth usage and adapt usage automatically based on network conditions.

Broader Windows and Linux compatibility - Cloud Access Software now supports versions of Windows 10 up to 1909, as well as Windows Server 2019, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) / CentOS versions up to 7.7. Support of brokering for PCoIP Remote Workstation Cards has been expanded to include Linux hosts, simplifying support for IT teams and providing a better end user experience.

Support for AMD GPU-Ps on Microsoft Azure and Azure NVv4 Virtual Machines - The soon to be released Microsoft Azure NVv4 instances will include the AMD Radeon Infinity MI25 Accelerator and 2nd Gen AMD EPYC™ processors to offer full GPU access for power users and others whose applications perform better with a GPU, such as graphics intensive 3D modeling applications. The NVv4 instances are unique, as the AMD GPU can be partitioned to enable as many as eight virtual workstation users to share the GPU, providing the flexibility of GPU access for users who don’t require a fully dedicated one, along with the ability to scale up to full GPU processing power when needed. Previously in technical preview and showcased at Microsoft Ignite in November, this is now fully supported in the latest release.

Tighter configurability for streamlined administration and security - PCoIP Management Console Enterprise now offers custom configurable user roles. This provides IT teams with more granularity in assigning permissions and tasks to support end users while providing tighter privacy and security controls. Thousands of people use PCoIP Management Console every day to manage millions of zero clients, and not all of those administrators should have the same level of power. With custom configurable user roles, an IT manager can specify what tasks each team member has the power to do - set up, for example, but not modify or delete profiles - with the zero clients serving their organization. In addition, administrators can configure monitor resolutions for zero clients, with support for 4K monitor emulation within Management Console.

Wider compatibility with Wacom pen displays and tablets for creative professionals - With this release, Teradici has expanded support for using medium and large Wacom Intuos Pro tablets with Linux clients (using these tablets with Windows clients was already supported) and is pleased to offer Windows and Linux client support for the Wacom Cintiq Pro 24.
