The recent revelations surrounding Spectre and Meltdown CPU vulnerabilities have yet again put security ahead on the agenda for enterprise IT staff and CIOs alike. And yet again, corporations that have chosen to deploy virtualized or cloud-based infrastructure with secure PCoIP Zero Client endpoints have one less concern on that urgent checklist – their endpoints remain secure.

As detailed here, PCoIP Zero Clients are not impacted by either of these security issues and continue to demonstrate resilience as the choice approach to locking down desk-side equipment.  Other products such as PCoIP Remote Workstation Cards and PCoIP Hardware Accelerators are not susceptible either.

Endpoint device management aside, Spectre and Meltdown will also draw some attention to the efficiency of your response in updating desktop and application infrastructure against these zero day threats.  When it comes to response times, enterprises using VDI, DaaS or cloud-based desktops will very likely surpass those companies with a decentralized inventory of physical workstations, PCs and laptops that need to be tracked down and patched.  And those companies reliant on public cloud infrastructure such as AWS EC2 or Microsoft Azure instances gain immediate benefits from up-to-date security disclosures from outsourced security experts dedicated to maintaining firmware, hypervisors and operating systems alike.

While the dust has not fully settled on the performance regression of cloud computing services in general, we’re hopeful that the real-world impact on application workloads will be
lower than early speculation.
